Branstad and Reynolds announce “Salute to our Veterans and Service Members Parade” in Iowa

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds this morning announced they will be coordinating a parade they are calling “A Salute to our Veterans and Service Members Parade.”

The parade will be held on Saturday, June 30 in downtown Des Moines. The parade will kick off at the state Capitol complex at 10 a.m. The parade ends at Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines.

“My office has been working in conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Iowa National Guard to organize this great event that recognizes the achievements of and salutes the dedication and commitment of our service men and women,” said Gov. Branstad.

Branstad noted that the parade will be similar to one held in 1991 that welcomed home Iowa soldiers from the first Iraq war. Branstad noted this parade honors all veterans and service members from all wars and all time periods.

“It is important to honor our heroes here at home,” said Branstad. “As a former member of the Army, and now Commander in Chief of the Iowa National Guard, I am proud of the men and women that represent our state on the battlefields across the world and when disaster strikes here on the home front.”

Details of the event can be found at http://Governor.Iowa.Gov. For more information or to participate in the parade, individuals are encouraged to call the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-800-838-4692.
