Lady Statesmen Collect Runner-Up Finish at AIB
Panora–The William Penn women’s golf team was in contention for another title, but a strong finish by someone in its rearview took the hardware away as the Lady Statesmen competed at the AIB Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday.
William Penn placed second out of five teams with a two-day score of 678 (340-338) at the par-71 Lake Panorama National Golf Course.
Bellevue (Neb.) utilized a strong second-day score of 322 to top the standings by 13 shots (343-322–665). The Bruins also had the medalist on their team as Christina VonRiesen shot a 158 (80-78).
Maggie Yang (Fr., Chino, Calif., Diamond Bar HS) had yet another top-five finish, tying for fourth with a 165 (82-83).
Dena Stevens (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) and Courtney Kronmuller (Jr., Fountain Valley, Calif., Fullerton CC) also found themselves in the top ten. Stevens was sixth at 169 (84-85), while Kronmuller was seventh at 170 (85-85).
Ashley Manhnieo (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., Olathe Northwest HS) concluded the tourney in 12th at 177 (89-88) and Mayci Rule (So., Idaho Falls, Idaho, Skyline HS) was 14th at 180 (95-85).
Presley Joss (Jr., Osceola, Clarke HS) played as an individual and left the course in 28th place (107-105–212).
Next: William Penn closes out its season next weekend by competing in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships Friday and Saturday. Play will be contested at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course. The tournament champion earns the league’s automatic bid to the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships in May.
