Floyd Francis Husted

Floyd Francis Husted, 89, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born October 9, 1922, in Oskaloosa, the son of Frank and Nellie Barnes Husted. He attended country school near Beacon. At an early age he began delivering furniture for Wilcox-Garland Furniture Store in Oskaloosa. He also worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps doing work at Edmundson Park and Lake Keomah. Later he worked laying bricks for streets in Oskaloosa. On January 9, 1943, he joined the United States Army; he was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945. On October 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Jennie Moore at Lancaster, Missouri. Jennie died November 4, 1988. He worked as a city mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 18 years in Oskaloosa. He then went to work at Vermeer for a time. Lastly he worked at Rolscreen, now Pella Corporation, until his retirement. He enjoyed polishing rocks and using those rocks to make things. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs, later in life he enjoyed watching golf and basketball. He enjoyed being out and about, traveling the back roads and keeping up on different projects around the county. He was always up to date on current events and enjoyed knowing what was going on in the world.

He is survived by his two children, Phylis (& Aaron) Ver Steeg of Oskaloosa and Albert Husted (& Deb Grubb) of Pella; a daughter in law, Toni Husted of Grinnell; five grandchildren, Scott, Rusty, Shannon, Penny and Ben; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Husted; a granddaughter, Teresa “Toot” Ver Steeg; a brother, Charles Husted; and a sister, Catherine Duncan; and his special friend of 20 years, Pauline Walker.
