William Penn Stymied in Another Tight Loss

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–If its two one-run losses from Monday did not hurt enough, the Statesmen baseball team endured another painful loss to Grand View Tuesday, falling 2-0 in Midwest Collegiate Conference play.

William Penn (13-19, 6-6 MCC) played even with the Vikings (20-23, 12-4 MCC) for the first six frames as David Ness (Sr., Purceville, Va., Frederick CC) was tossing a dandy of a game.

Unfortunately, the visitors put two on base in the seventh and both runners came home on a triple by A.J. Krist. That was all she wrote for William Penn, who was limited to only three hits (six for GVU). The navy and gold put runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and seventh frames, but failed to produce the timely hit.

Ness (4-4) struck out six and walked one in his fourth complete game of the spring.

Next: William Penn will host MCC foe Ashford in a three-game series this weekend. The teams meet for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and then face off again Sunday in a nine-inning contest at noon.
