Work On Skate Park Enters Final Phases

Oskaloosa, Iowa – With spring-like weather, attention has turned towards outdoor activities.
Crews spent the day on Wednesday pouring the last sections of concrete around the skate park itself said Paul Scanlon, owner of G & S Construction. If the rain holds off, Scanlon hopes to haul in approximately 25 loads of black dirt to level off the park so that crews can then pour sidewalks, install a gazebo, and sod the area.
Scanlon believes that, if the weather cooperates, he should be completed with his portion of the project in the next 2 weeks.
Some adventurous souls have found their way into the nearly completed park, but were asked to leave as work is still in progress and there are hazardous conditions remaining. “I’ve seen a lot of kids just going by after school with their skate boards and bicycles itching to get in here,” Scanlon said of the eager crowd waiting to use the new facility and seeing the amount of interest while they have been working on the project.
The basketball court has also seen it’s share of use, mostly by the construction crews working at either the Trolly Place project or at the skate park. As with the rest of the park, work is ongoing with the court too and many hazards are still unseen.
The fencing for the park is scheduled to be installed soon. The gazebo will have lighting as well as a fountain and will be well lit at night.
A tentative day for the grand opening of the new skate park is set for May 1st.
