Food and Fun Help Wrap Up Barnstormer Stay
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Oskaloosa is going to be just a little bit smaller after this weekend with the departure of our own adopted team to their home turf, but the memories will last well beyond the season.
The final public appearance of the Barnstormers in Oskaloosa was at the Oskaloosa Christian School. The burgers were grilled to perfection with the help of the Mahaska County Cattleman’s Association and were served up with baked beans, desert bars and cookies along with chips donated by Hy-Vee and a drink.
Attendees had an opportunity to participate in pull-ups and a football toss, and grab autographs from the Barnstormers themselves who helped do everything from sell raffle tickets to serve the food and run, and compete, in the games.
Jason Alons, principle of the Oskaloosa Christian School welcomed the team to the school. Funds raised from the evening helped in tuition assistance for underprivileged families. “I think it’s pretty fun”, Alons said of the evenings activities.
The school’s sister school, Pella Christian was in the championship game for girls high school basketball, and that took part of the crowd away, but there was still 160 visitors that made their way out to take part in the event.
On Saturday, the Barnstormers had to trim their team down to the mandatory size for arena football rules, and started training to take on their first opponent, the Spokane Shock, March 12th.
