Burgey to Enter Nationals with Lower Ranking
Oskaloosa–Despite just one loss on his 2011-2012 resume, Eric Burgey (So., Easton, Pa., Easton HS) will not be one of the favorites at 149 pounds, at least if one goes by the national rankings.
In the NAIA’s final regular season wrestling poll, the sophomore was moved from #1 all the way to #8. TJ Moen of Grand View, whom Burgey defeated 3-2 in a January dual, is the new #1 at 149 pounds.
Burgey’s drop meant William Penn also fell, sliding unofficially to 24th with 5.5 points.
The top five remains the same with Grand View holding at the top with 133 points. Campbellsville (Ky.) is second, while Southern Oregon, Great Falls (Mont.), and Oklahoma City round out the top five.
The navy and gold also took a hit in the Central Qualifying Group poll, slipping to tenth with ten points. Grand View continues to lead with 187 points, while Oklahoma City is second with 142 points.
Burgey is William Penn’s lone rated grappler, sitting in fifth place.
