Statesmen End Regular Season with Top-Ten Hoosier Classic Finish
Indianapolis, Ind.–The 2011-2012 William Penn men’s bowling campaign wrapped up nicely with yet another high finish at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic presented by Columbia 300 last weekend.
The Statesmen placed tenth out of 77 competing teams with a final tally of 8,564 pins in nine games. Wichita State (Kan.) was the top qualifier with 9,108 pins.
Throughout its ten tournaments this season, William Penn never placed outside the top ten.
The navy and gold advanced to the 12-team bracket tournament, but unfortunately was ousted in the first round by #7 seed Webber International (Fla.) 3-0. Webber International eventually reached the championship match before falling 3-2 to #5 seed Lindenwood (Mo.).
Marshall Kent of Robert Morris (Ill.) led all individuals with a 214.8 average (1,933 pins).
Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS) topped William Penn by placing 12th with a 203.7 average (1,833 pins).
Brandon Brooks (Sr., Sigourney, Vincennes CC) was next with a 191.2 clip, while Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) posted an average of 188.9. Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC) also started all nine games and averaged 182.2 pins.
Drew Balta (So., Walford, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) racked up a 192.7 pin average in six games and Piet Schaeffer (So., Livingston, Scotland, The James Young HS) concluded his team’s scoring with a 176.3 mark in four games.
