Burgey Again #1, Kozak and Soderblom Third in Qualifying Group
Oskaloosa–For the sixth poll in a row, Eric Burgey (So., Easton, Pa., Easton HS) heads the NAIA at 149 pounds as the sixth wrestling rating of the year was released.
Burgey, who has only hit the mat a dozen times, is a perfect 12-0 with four falls. He is one of four individuals who have held their #1 ranking all season.
The sophomore has helped the Statesmen keep control of #17 in the national ranking with 21 points.
Rival Grand View remains the NAIA’s #1 with 143.5 points. Campbellsville (Ky.) is a very distant second with 101 points. Southern Oregon, Great Falls (Mont.), and Oklahoma City round out the top five.
Fellow Central Qualifying Group programs Baker (#7), Missouri Valley (#12), and Waldorf (#19) are also in the top 20.
The Statesmen jump one position to sixth in the Central Group rating with 47 points, while Grand View remains first with 196 points. Baker is second with 144 points.
Burgey tops 149 pounds, while 141-pounder Tommy Kozak (So., Belleville, Mich., Thiel) and 184-pounder Kyle Soderblom (Fr., Newton, Lynnville-Sully HS) each improved one notch to #3 at their respective weights.
