Spielbauer Tabbed for District Academic Honor
Oskaloosa–After suffering several season-ending foot injuries, men’s basketball player Davis Spielbauer (Jr., Wapello, Wapello HS) is finally on the hardwood and already a great student, he is also finding success on the hardwood as he was honored for his all-around achievements Thursday.
The guard was named an all-District 5 College Division honoree as part of the Capitol One Academic All-American Men’s Basketball Team selected by CoSIDA.
The accolade recognizes student-athletes not only for their athletic prowess but also their successes academically. Spielbauer owns a 3.84 Grade Point Average in biology and is averaging 8.2 points per game on a 14-11 (9-4 MCC) Statesmen squad. The junior also averages 1.8 rebounds in addition to 24 assists, one block, and six steals.
Spielbauer is one of just five individuals honored within District 5’s College division, which includes institutions within the NAIA ranks as well as Canadian universities and two-year schools.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least sophomore academic standing, be a starter or key reserve player (other playing requirements where applicable), maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full calendar year.
