William Penn Fourth in First Post-Holiday Meet
South Bend, Ind.–The Lady Statesmen bowling team started its post-holiday season with a tremendous fourth-place performance at the Blue and Gold Classic over the weekend.
William Penn placed fourth out of 44 teams with 8,506 pins in nine regular games. Wichita State (Kan.) slipped past Robert Morris (Ill.) by just one pin, 9,098-9,097.
Katie Sexton of Robert Morris was the top individual placer with a 225.6 average (2,030 pins).
Samantha Powell (Jr., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS) guided the navy and gold in sixth place with a 203.9 average (1,835 pins).
Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Treynor HS) also placed in the top 20 (14th) with a 194.2 average.
Kelsey Johnson (Fr., Montgomery, Ill., Oswego East HS) was just outside the top 20 (21st) with a 192.3 clip, while Jessica Ganem (Jr., Austin, Texas, Leander HS) was impressive in her Lady Statesmen debut with a 188.6 mark.
The foursome all started nine games.
Jessica Fuja (Fr., Roselle, Ill., Lake Park HS), Kirstin Newberry (So., Holland, Mich., West Ottawa HS), and Abigayle Wempen (Jr., Titonka, North Iowa HS) split the final nine games.
Fuja averaged 175.3 pins in three games, Newberry had a 164.0 mark in three games, and Wempen owned a 159.0 average in three games.
