Golomski Ties Three-Point Record in 69-55 Win Over Ashford

William Penn Lady Statesmen Orielle Thomas drives for 2 Saturday against Ashford

Oskaloosa–Katie Golomski (Fr., Milwaukee, St. Pius Xi HS) was on fire Saturday afternoon in Penn Gymnasium as she paced the Lady Statesmen cagers to a 69-55 victory over Ashford in Midwest Collegiate Conference action.

Golomski tied a school single-game record with eight three-pointers en route to a season-high 26 points. For the second game in a row, William Penn (6-14, 4-5 MCC) led the entire way, giving the program back-to-back wins for the second time this year.

Golomski, who was 9-of-14 overall (8-of-12 3-PT), matched Kristina McNew’s 2003-2004 record of eight trifectas. She was strong all afternoon, hitting four shots in both halves of action.

The Lady Statesmen, who led by six at halftime, never took full control until the midway point of the second stanza. The Saints (7-13, 3-6 MCC) pulled to within five just four minutes after the break, but then scoring s slowed to a snail’s pace with the hosts scoring all seven of the game’s points in the next 6:09 of game clock. Ashford never got closer than nine after that juncture.

William Penn won the shooting battle 46.2%-35.2% and committed two less turnovers (16-18), good for a 15-8 edge in points off mistakes. The visitors netted a slight 37-35 advantage in rebounds (14-6 in second-chance points).

Orielle Thomas (So., Waynesville, Mo., Waynesville HS) and Jessie Kreuser (Fr., Mendota Heights, Minn., Henry Sibley HS) also reached double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Kreuser just missed her second-consecutive double-double, leading the Lady Statesmen with nine rebounds.

Sarah Martin (Jr., Anthem, Ariz., Boulder Creek HS) contributed seven points in the win. Susan Smith (Jr., Eugene, Ore., Lane CC) posted four points, but again was more of a factor in getting others points with eight assists.

Alisa Moritz (Sr., Emily, Minn., Minnesota-Crookston) blocked three shots in the win.

Next: The Lady Statesmen travel to Forest City Monday to face Waldorf in MCC action at 5:30 p.m.
