Offense Absent in Loss to Iowa Wesleyan
Mount Pleasant–The Lady Statesmen cagers quite simply had a bad day Saturday in falling 57-27 to Iowa Wesleyan in Midwest Collegiate Conference action..
William Penn (4-12, 2-3 MCC) played without its top player Orielle Thomas (So., Waynesville, Mo., Waynesville HS) (sick) for the second game in a row, but this time around the shots would not drop. The Lady Statesmen shot just 15.7% from the field, while Iowa Wesleyan (7-7, 3-2 MCC) also struggled to the tune of 34.0%.
The visitors gave up the contest’s first 12 points and trailed 28-14 at the break. The navy and gold never really challenged the Tigers in the second half either.
Sam Abens (So., Knoxville, Southwest Minnesota State) paced her team with ten points, while Jessi Kreuser (Fr., Mendota Heights, Minn., Henry Sibley HS) tallied five points. Katie Golomski (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis., Pius Xi HS) finished with four points and a team-high three steals.
One lone positive for William Penn came at the line as the squad was 10-of-15. Iowa Wesleyan won the rebounding (46-37) and turnover (23-28) battles.
Next: The Lady Statesmen return home Wednesday to host Grand View in MCC play at 5:30 p.m.
