Texas Governor Rick Perry Ends Day In Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry ended his day Wednesday with a town hall style meeting at Smokey Row, on the west side of the square in Oskaloosa, around 5:00 p.m.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been recently traveling with the Governor, endorsing for the candidate as they make their way across the state. “I believe in the Governor”, Arpaio said to those gathered.
Perry spoke of locking the boarder down within the first year of his administration with Predator drones. “We’ll be able to respond quickly”, Perry said in his speech today saying, “and we can shut that border down”. “My promise to the American people is that border will be shut down and stopped from illegal activity a year after I’m sworn in”, Perry said to the crowd in Smokey Row in Pella, Iowa just before his stop in Oskaloosa.
“Border security is just one example of how this administration is really broken. Yesterday, as I mentioned earlier, this President gave exhibit A on how out of touch they are with what’s going on right here in Indianola, Iowa, by asking for 1.2 trillion dollars more for the debt ceiling”, Perry told supporters in an earlier stop at The Sports Page in Indianola, Iowa.
One of those “fun” moments happened while in Indianola. A local resident was asking the Governor a question and was having difficulty remembering exactly what she was going to ask. The Governor took the quick moment to break the ice and made reference to his own problems in the past remembering specifics.
“Why would you settle for anything less than an authentic conservative who will fight for your values and your views and not apologize to anybody for it. Why would you settle for anything less than that in this election on the 3rd of January?”
If you replace a Democrat insider with a Republican insider, do you think it’s going to change a thing in Washington D.C.?”, Perry said in reference to some of his Republican rivals for the GOP nomination. “You don’t have to vote for a candidate that will allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon”, Perry said about Iran’s plans to “wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, because we know who would be next. We don’t have to settle for that.”
As I walked up to Smokey Row with Governor Perry, he said he thought south central Iowa “is a pretty part of the world”.
