VOLUNTEERS CONTINUE HOLIDAY FOOD BASKET DISTRIBUTION

The Oskaloosa Rotary Club is continuing the annual Christmas Food Basket program for Mahaska County families in need. The program was initiated and managed for many years by the Human Services Resource Council, an all-volunteer group. In 2010, over 500 food baskets were given to families in need throughout Mahaska County.

Families wishing to apply for a food basket must complete and return a brief form. The form ran in the November 9 Oskaloosa Shopper (and will run periodically in the Herald and/or Shopper; applications are also available at SEIDA, DHS, Community Services, and the Senior Center.) Applications must be postmarked by December 2, 2011. Eligible families will be notified by mail, and baskets will be distributed on Saturday, December 17.

The program is managed by volunteers from Oskaloosa Rotary and members of the Human Services Resource Council. Assembly and distribution of the baskets involves many volunteers from these, and other, local organizations.

The program is funded entirely by community donations. Individuals wishing to donate may send their contribution to Christmas Food Baskets, P. O. Box 222, Oskaloosa, IA 52577. Please make checks payable to Oskaloosa Rotary Club. Donations of any size are welcome.
