The William Penn University Fine Arts Department will present the musical, “Godspell”

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The William Penn University Fine Arts Department will present the musical, “Godspell” on November 10, 11, 12, at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the McGrew Fine Arts Center on the William Penn campus. Originally produced in 1972, the show is now in revival on Broadway, a tribute to the timeless stories from the Bible and captivating music by Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz, also composer of music for the hit musical, “Wicked”, wrote the music for “Godspell” at the young age of 23. Popular songs from “Godspell” include “Day by Day,” “Save the People” and “All Good Gifts.”
Playing the role of Jesus is Kelly Howerton of Edina, Missouri with Chris Meinert of Oskaloosa, Iowa in the role of John the Baptist/Judas. Other cast members include: Kilie Anderson, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Kaitie Graves, Bloomfield, Iowa; Jason Madrid, Ottumwa, Iowa; Emily Basili, Glenwood, Iowa; Aaron Frederick, Pella, Iowa; Nikki Wilson, Bloomfield, Iowa; Courtney Kleinschmidt, Washington, Iowa; and Ryan Poe, Wapello, Iowa.
A musical that emphasizes the strength of a community, this production has brought together the efforts of all areas of the William Penn Fine Arts Community. The Art Department, Music Department, and Theatre Department have all played important roles in staging, rehearsal, and performance. Production staff include Anita Meinert, director: Miriam Kenning, choreographer; Scott Cressley, music direction and sound; Randy Wright, lighting; and Sam Looney, set construction and video.
