Annual Optimist Football Event set for Saturday

William Penn Football this August on their practice field

Saturday will be the 18th annual Oskaloosa Optimist Club Tri-Star Football Skills contest. The event, a signature event for the club, will be held on the practice field of William Penn beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. And contest at 9.

“This event is open to all boys and girls in grades 4 through 6,” said club president Jeff Keep. “This is our 18th event and more than 300 kids have taken home medals since we began in 1993.”

First through third place will be awarded to each age and each gender division. Ribbons will be given to each participant along with the 18 medals to the place winners.

The practice field is located on the west end of the campus along North E Street. There is no registration fee. Registrations are available at Swim Sports or by calling 641-660-6310. The contest and awards should conclude by 10 a.m.

This is a fun event not only for the kids, but for us as Optimists,” said Keep. “We look forward to this event each year. What better way to be a friend of youth than by spending time with them in a safe and fun activity.”

The Oskaloosa Optimist Club is an adult youth-oriented club, which meets on Wednesday mornings at Smokey Row at 7 a.m.
