We’re Not Kitten Around: PALS to Host Overstocked Event
The Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) will be hosting an “Overstocked” event on Saturday, October 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the animal shelter. The fun event is intended to help cats and dogs get adopted, as well as celebrate the shelter’s third anniversary and progress over the last year.
The open house will have games and contests for the entire family, tours of the renovated cat rooms, and hourly door prizes. Lunch will be available for purchase.
Last year the shelter started raising funds to revamp the cat rooms. With community and grant support, the project is complete, and the cats are enjoying their new havens. The renovation included the purchase of new kennels for the isolation room, and the construction of four cat havens or large living areas. These havens allow the cats more room for exercise, as well as socialize and prepare them to live with other cats.
“The shelter continues to be a work in progress,” says Wendy Kadner, PALS president. “Each year we have a new addition to celebrate. Last year it was the new doggy digs. This year we are celebrating our new cat havens. The main cat room now consists of four cat large living areas. These havens are a healthy solution for the cats–they have room to move and play.” Kadner adds, “And while both the dogs and cats have awesome areas at the shelter, it would still be better if they were in homes. So we’re hosting an Overstocked Event to help get the animals adopted. If you are in the market for a new pet, please consider stopping by the shelter to adopt one of our loving, four-legged friends.”
The animal shelter is located south of Grinnell at 4167 20th Street.
