Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Mahaksa County Auditor’s Office has announced the Candidate Listing for the 2011 Mahaska County Municipal Elections. In University Park, Mayor George Toubekis filed to run for re-election. Toubekis faces no opposition. The City Council race there is a different story. University Park voters will elect two Council members this year. Incumbents Arlen Phillips and Zac Samuels filed to run for re-election. They are being challenged by Ben Doak, John Doty, and Colleen Platt.

In Beacon, no one filed to run for the Mayor spot, however, Incumbent Mayor Shawn Maxwell has announced that he will mount a write in campaign for re-election. The City Council side is a similar story. Only two people filed to run for any of the five spots to be voted on this year. Those two people are Ken Allsup and Incumbent Thomas Van Der Veer.

The City of Fremont will too face a challenged race. Two people filed to run for the unexpired term ending in 2013. Yvonne Gabby Evans and Michelle Rupprecht both will be running for the unexpired term on the Fremont City Council. Voters will elect one person. Edd Elder filed to run for Mayor of Fremont. He faces no opposition. Cynthia Purdy and John Van Zante both filed to run for the two full term spots. Both Purdy and Van Zante also face on opposition.

Barnes City faces an issue similar to Beacon. No candidate filed to run for Barnes City Mayor. Three people, however, filed to run for two City Council spots. Incumbents Donald Baker and Steve Robertson are being challenged by Virgil Roorda. Voters will elect two people to the Council.

In Keomah Village, a public measure will appear on the ballot. The proposed measure will change the term of office of City Council Members from two to four year (staggered) terms. For Keomah Village City Council, four people filed to run for five spots. Incumbents Larry Boyer, Craig Coen, and Clark Johnson filed to run. Newcomer Amy Sarver also filed to run. Keomah Village Mayor Mark De Jong faces no opposition in his bid for re-election.

All incumbents filed to run for re-election in Leighton. They face no opposition. Mayor Daniel Gleason and Council Members Keith Beintema, William Bruxvoort, Henry Van Roekel, Charles Bogaard, and Kimberly Sytsma will appear on the November ballot.

The same scenario occurred in Rose Hill. Incumbent Mayor Barb Schultz and Incumbent Council Members Wilda Collister, Terry Lowe, Seth Farlow, Kyle Morgan all filed to run for re-election, however voters will elect five council members.

New Sharon faces a Mayoral Race. Dustin Hite and Zack Pickard both filed to run for New Sharon Mayor. Incumbents Larry Applegate and Lisa Munn face no opposition in their bids for re-election. Voters will elect two to the City Council.

City Elections will be held on November 8th, 2011.

Editors Note: A correction has been made to the Keomah Village listing. Incumbent Larry Boyer, not Amy Boyer, filed to run.
