MHP Hospice Serenity House celebrates with tours
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Celebrating one year of service to the community, the MHP Hospice Serenity House is offering private tours throughout the month of August for anyone interested.
According to MHP Home Health and Hospice Services Director Kim Lambert, the tours are a way to thank the community for the tremendous support the Serenity House received. “We served 61 patients, along with their family and friends in our first year of service,” Lambert said.
“We have received such a positive response from those who utilized the Serenity House, and many say they were unaware of the services and assistance we offer to hospice patients until they needed them,” Lambert said. “We are offering private tours for people who have questions or are interested in learning more about this valuable resource. We want to share the Hospice Serenity House with our community, whose support made our opening possible. ”
Lambert said that to date, the community has donated more than $2.8 million to the Serenity House through a capital campaign, continuing fundraising efforts such as the MCG/Mahaska Hospice Golf Under the Lights Tournament and the MHP Foundation Run in the Sun, as well as memorials that are designated to benefit the Serenity House. “Much of the support received is going to pay off the facility, unless the donor specifies how he or she wants their donation to be used.
“We’re currently in the beginning stages of starting Phase 1 of the Serenity Gardens, which have been made possible by the generosity to the capital campaign of the Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary and John Mathew, in Honor of James F. and Betty L. Mathew. We are working with Janelle Randau of The Garden Planner and have wonderful plans for making the gardens a tranquil retreat for patients, families and visitors to the MHP campus.”
Lambert said there are also currently 60 community volunteers at the Serenity House, who play a vital role in fulfilling the Serenity House’s mission. They help provide the home-like touches that allow the Serenity House to help patients live each day to the fullest potential.
“We are privileged and honored that the community puts its trust in us during a family’s most trying time, the death of a loved one,” Lambert said. “We invite anyone interested in learning more to schedule a private tour to see first-hand the peaceful environment and excellent care given during a loved one’s last days.”
