Fox News Presidential Debate ‘Spin Room’

Newt Gingrich on 'Hannity' The floor of the 'Spin Room' was a hectic place to attempt to get information on the candidates. The 'Hannity' set was located on the floor in the middle of all the excitement.

Ames, Iowa – The heat of debate lead to an hour of ‘spin’ with nearly every candidate and their representatives. The spin room is a different scenario. After a debate, the candidates and their representatives mingle with the press and attempt to “spin” members of the press into a favorable view of their candidate or views. You will also find senators, congressmen, and dignitaries as they attempt to have their thoughts on the nights activity heard as well.

Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn shared his thoughts on the nights debate, and if it was aggressive at times. “I think everybody understand the stakes have been raised for Saturday’s Straw Poll. I think you saw that tonight.”

US Senator Rand Paul was on hand to lend support to his father, and Presidential Candidate Ron Paul at Thursday's debate.

Strawn said that he believes, “they want to show some differentiation between themselves and their colleagues who were on stage and it’s part of the competitive process. This process is designed to give us the strongest possible nominee against Barack Obama.”

Presidential Candidate Thaddeus McCotter was also on hand speaking. He had not been part of the debate as he lacked sufficient polling numbers to be invited onto the podium. I asked him what he would have been able to have brought to the debate. “My concern is they continue to show they don’t know the  real problem in our economy,” McCotter said.

“I think they have to continue to point out the obvious China is a strategic threat,” McCotter said about another talking point that he could have brought to the table in the debate.

Alice Stewart, Press Secretary for Michele Bachmann, took a few moments to speak with us about the debate. “Pleased that she was able to share where she stands on the issues, and she demonstrated she’s in command of the issues and can hold her own when she’s being attacked from all sides. She didn’t shy away from that, and this was an opportunity for her to set the record straight on her. Past several weeks others have been telling lies about her record, and this gave her an opportunity to tell the truth about his.”
