City of Oskaloosa seeks applicants for boards and commissions
Oskaloosa, Iowa- The City of Oskaloosa is still accepting applications for spots on several different boards and commissions. Currently, there are are five vacancies within the boards and commissions. There are two vacancies on the Building Code Board of Appeals, one vacancy on the Airport Commission, one vacancy on the Water Board, and on vacancy on Mahaska County Solid Waste Commission. There are only two requirements for applicants, those being that all applicants must be 18 years of age and they must be a resident of Oskaloosa (unless otherwise stated).
After last Monday’s City Council meeting, I had a chance to catch up with Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt and talk to him about the recent board/commission openings. ““This is the easiest way to make a contribution to the entire community. By getting on a board or a commission, if you’ve ever had a question why the way something is or a question whether or not people are really paying attention out there, is there intelligence in the way we do things, the boards and commissions are where it’s at. ”
Krutzfeldt used the Water Board as an example. “So when I was on the Library Board, understanding underneath all the rules and ways we operate that thing, there are real life people making real life decisions on the go. So in the case of the Water Board, the clean water for Oskaloosa, we all take it for granted. Is it going to be around in 10 years? 15 years? We need to have people who are concerned about that, and have some expertise in it and are willing to go to the meetings,” Krutzfeldt said.
Krutzfeldt also spoke about the time commitment of being on a board or commission. “. Is it a big investment of time? No, not really. Compared to what the city council members or myself go through, the boards and commissions will keep you busy a few hours a month and that’s about it, but in the meantime, you’re making a difference.”
