University Park City Council for July 5, 2011
University Park, Iowa – The University Park City Council met in regular session Tuesday night. The first item for consideration was a public hearing on the abatement of a nuisance property. The City was considering the abatement of a house within University Park owned by Eldon Zook. The property in question owned by Zook had become run down and was becoming filled with junk. After much discussion, the council voted to give Zook a 90 day extension with the stipulation that he had to pay all legal fees related to the abatement.

In this year’s elections, Mayor George Toubekis, Councilman Arlen Phillips, and Councilman Zac Samuels are all up in this year’s elections. After brief discussion, it was recommended that the polls in University Park open at 7 AM and close at 8 PM. Candidates who wish to run will have to turn in their nomination petitions to the University Park City Clerk no earlier than August 29th and no later than September 22nd. The number of signatures required to get onto the ballot will be set by the County Auditor at a later date. In other action, the City Council:
