Question of the week: Do you believe that the City Council listens to your concerns?

Oskaloosa Iowa City Council Chambers

Last week, we asked you if you approved of the new redistricting plan. 34 residents responded with 20 (59%) saying yes, 8 (24%) saying unsure, and 6 (17%) saying no. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the view of Osky News.

This week, we shift to a local issue. On Monday, the Oskaloosa City Council unanimously voted to approve the second reading of an ordinance allowing golf carts on the recreation trail. The vote came after much public comment. The vote has caused some to question whether or not they feel they are listened to as constituents.

Those who say that the Council listens to community concerns say that they do so by willingly taking their calls. They say that as city council members, they are flooded with calls and that the council members take every situation into consideration before voting. Those who don’t believe the Council listens to community concerns cite the public comments at the past two City Council meetings. They say that the council’s vote in favor of golf carts after two public comment sessions filled with concerns against the golf carts shows that they don’t always listen to the concerns of the community.

Now it’s your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until Sunday May 1st when we will close the poll and release the final voting numbers. If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail us at info@oskynews.org or visit our Facebook page.
