Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Monday morning, April 04, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Joyce went home to be with her Lord early Friday morning at the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Joyce Elaine Beyer, daughter of George and Ann Memmelaar Zimmer, was born October 1, 1948 in Bozeman, Montana. The family moved from Manhattan, Montana to Peoria, Iowa, where Joyce attended Peoria Christian School through 7th grade. They moved to Randolph, Wisconsin and Joyce attended Immanuel Christian School and then Waupun Christian High School through her sophomore year. The family then moved to Oskaloosa and Joyce graduated from Pella Christian High School in 1966. Her last two years of high school, Joyce worked at the Camair Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide. After graduation, Joyce moved to Centreville, Michigan and worked at Pine Rest for 11 months. She then moved back to Oskaloosa and was employed by Mahaska County Hospital. Joyce returned to Wisconsin for a time and worked at Beaverdam Hospital. February 14, 1970, she married Kenneth D. Beyer at the home of her parents in Randolph, WI. They returned to Oskaloosa where Joyce worked as a nursing assistant at Mahaska County Hospital and Mahaska Manor Nursing Home. Joyce worked 34 years as a nursing assistant. She enjoyed babysitting and from 1996 to 1997 she cared for her parents at Lake Worth, Florida. Joyce was employed in the laundry (Environmental Services) at the Pella Hospital from 1997 to 2005. In 2008, Joyce found herself to be a cancer survivor. Joyce made her profession of faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa and was a member of the Good News Chapel where she taught Calvinettes for 13 years.
Those left to cherish her life’s memories are her husband, Kenneth of Oskaloosa; two sons and their wives: David and Denise Beyer of Pella and Daryl and Billie Beyer of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Brandon and Lacy Beyer ; three step-grandchildren: Ethan Spoelstra, Mason Spolestra and Elizabeth Graham; one great-step-granddaughter, Natilia Spoelstra; a brother and his wife, Chuck and Ruth Zimmer of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; four sisters and their husbands: Donna (Leo) Fynaardt of Oskaloosa, Carol and Melvin Fynaardt of New Sharon, Mary and Alvin Runia of Melvin, IA and Lois and Jim Vander Warde of Franklin, NC; ten nephews, eight nieces; 22 great nephews and 20 great nieces.
Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers: George John Zimmer and an infant brother.
Memorials may be made in Joyce’s name and will be designated at a later time.
