WPU Shuts Out Pride, Pulls Even Atop League Standings Entering Homecoming Matchup
Dubuque–The William Penn men’s soccer team made quick work of Clarke Tuesday, defeating the Pride 4-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
The 10th-ranked Statesmen (9-0-6, 7-0-4 Heart), with help from William Woods defeating MidAmerica Nazarene, are now tied with MNU and Grand View for the top spot in the league with 25 points. WPU and MNU meet Saturday on Drost Field for a Homecoming matchup at 1:30 p.m.
The navy and gold needed just 69 seconds Tuesday to take the lead over Clarke (8-3-4, 4-3-4 Heart) as Jarred Hendricks (Sr., Cape Town, South Africa, Exercise Science) scored unassisted.
Alexander Greaves (Sr., Hertford, England, Sports Management) then doubled the advantage at the 11:57 mark with assistance from Javier Perez (So., Alicante, Spain, Business Management).
Hendricks pushed it to 3-0 in the 18th minute to finish off his brace. A double assist was credited to Greaves and Ivan Abraira (Jr., Asturias, Spain, Exercise Science).
Just before halftime, the Pride went down one player with a red card. Despite having everything in their favor, the Statesmen only recorded one more goal down the stretch with Mario Navarro (Grad, Mira, Spain, Masters of Sports Management) sending a ball to Greaves who deposited his second score of the night at the 68:56 juncture.
With the pair of braces, William Penn has now had multiple goal-scorers on eight different occasions in 2026.
At game’s end, WPU held a 17-7 edge in shots en route to its 10th shutout of the fall. Hendricks and Navarro topped the victors with three attempts each.
Milder managed two saves for his shutout performance.
“This was a great performance against a very good outfit,” Head Coach Joe Minton said. “We will look to take this momentum and confidence into our final games of the year.”
