Bah Scores Eighth Goal of Season as WPU Falls to No. 7 Clarke
Dubuque–The William Penn women’s soccer team matched No. 7 Clarke with an early goal, but the remainder of the night belonged to the home team as the Statesmen fell 4-1 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday.
The Statesmen (6-7-2, 3-6-2 Heart), which was outshot 21-5, could not keep pace with the now league-leading Pride (12-1-2, 9-1-1 Heart), who took over the top spot in the Heart after a loss by Benedictine.
The hosts scored exactly three minutes into Tuesday’s bout, but the navy and gold answered just 21 seconds later when Sian Bah (Sr., London, England, Political Science) put a ball into the netting unassisted. The goal is the eighth of the year for the senior.
CU went back on top in the 15th minute, but WPU kept it a one-goal margin into halftime. Still trailing by only one goal entering the final third of the game, the proverbial dam finally broke in the 62nd minute.
The Pride, which posted a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks, put the game out of reach at the 81:00 mark with their fourth and final goal.
Bah provided nearly all of William Penn’s offense with four shots, while Anna Museler (Sr., Dresden, Germany, Engineering) contributed the other Statesmen attempt.
Penelope Nelson (Fr., Dayton, Ohio, Exercise Science) finished with six saves Tuesday.
“We played decent in the first half, but had a very slow start after the break, and absorbed too much pressure to deserve anything more from the game,” Head Coach Kaleb Preston said.
Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Saturday for Homecoming, hosting MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart action at 11 a.m.
