Strong Serving Helps Oskaloosa Seventh Graders Earn Three Road Wins
OSKALOOSA — Oskaloosa’s seventh-grade volleyball teams earned three wins in four road matches, with A1 and A2 sweeping Pella Christian and B1 rallying for a three-set victory at Oskaloosa Christian.
Ava Kenney delivered 11 service aces for A2, while Aurora Carmer served seven aces to help B1 complete its comeback.
A1 opened its match at Pella Christian with a 21-11 victory. Alizah VanWyk and Emelia Stewart each served four aces in the opening set, while Willow Hahn-Lefler added one. Paisley Doud contributed a kill.
The Indians continued their strong serving in the second set to finish the sweep. Stewart and Hahn-Lefler each added two aces, while VanWyk and Doud recorded one apiece.
Doud finished with three kills, including two in the second set. Hahn-Lefler added a second-set kill.
Stewart totaled six aces for the match, followed by VanWyk with five and Hahn-Lefler with three.
A2 followed with a 21-15, 21-19 victory over Pella Christian.
Kenney led the serving effort with seven aces in the first set and four in the second. Harper De Bruin contributed a kill and three aces in the second set as Oskaloosa finished the close contest.
At Oskaloosa Christian, B1 recovered from a narrow opening-set loss to win 20-22, 21-15, 15-13.
Coaches Pierson and Moorman praised the team’s composure and determination during the comeback. Rosie Clark and Gabby Larson provided important digs to extend rallies, while Carmer led the serving effort with seven aces.
Paisley Bennett, Noemi Rodriguez and Khloee Watts also contributed key passes that helped the Indians organize their offense.
B2 dropped its three sets, 13-21, 17-21 and 5-15, but the coaches pointed to improvements in serving, ball movement and hustle.
Olivia Baines, Leah Bock and Cloey Johnson contributed strong passing and digging efforts. Kayza Zaldarriaga, Emelia Hicks and Kai Norrish also drew praise for their hustle and progress at the serving line.
Pierson and Moorman emphasized the effort, teamwork and growth shown by the players throughout the road matches.
