Henry John Osterloh, 86, died August 31, 2026. Henry was born July 9, 1940, to Nellie F. Osterloh and John Henry Osterloh. He lived along the river in Norfolk.

Known by his friends and family as Hank or Willie and his children as Daddy O. He moved through life with an open heart; to him, there were no strangers, only friends he hadn’t met yet and would help anyone even if it meant he gave them his last dollar.

He loved to fish and hunt and tell trucker stories about his 55-year trucking career driving for millions of miles from Point A to B and everywhere in between. He drove for companies such as RFK, Warner, Hunt and Dickies. During that time he partnered driving truck with his brothers Jim and Lee and his nephew John Bates, who could tell you many of their stories by heart.

He is survived by his 9 children: Anne Malin of Iowa, Nikki Osterloh, Deborah Murphy, Cameron Osterloh, Darius Osterloh, Taylor Osterloh, Carman Osterloh, Sammie Osterloh; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother and father; and his siblings: Laverna Bates, Loraine “Red” Wheeler, Ronald Osterloh, James “Jim” Osterloh, and Leroy “Lee” Osterloh (Vicky Osterloh).

He will be very missed by all his trucking friends and family.

As was his wish, cremation will take place and there are no formal services planned at this time. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
