Statesmen of the Week: Javier Perez and Maju Vieira

Oskaloosa–Men’s soccer player Javier Perez (So., Alicante, Spain, Business Management) and women’s volleyball player Maju Vieira (Sr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Business Management) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of August 17-23.

Perez recorded a hat trick against Morningside in last Friday’s season opener. The sophomore scored three goals in the first half as William Penn won 7-1. He then added three shots in a 0-0 tie against Rocky Mountain last Sunday.

Vieira finished with 60 kills (2.86 per set) on a .177 attack percentage as the Statesmen opened their season at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational last Thursday through Saturday. She also tallied 42 digs (2.00 per set).

The senior reached double figures in kills in three matches with a high of 23 against Paul Quinn last Friday. In that match, she tallied a double-double with 22 digs.
