Despite the conditions outside, the State Legislature was in session today. In the morning session of the Iowa Senate, the Senate received one bill from the house for consideration. HRJ 6, a resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Iowa specifying marriage between on man and one woman as the only legal union that is represented in the state, sponsored by 56 of the House Republicans, was received. The Senate did not act on the resolution.

In the morning session of the Iowa House, two bills were introduced. HF 161, a bill relating to the use of unattended, unmarked law enforcement vehicles for purposes of motor vehicle law enforcement, was introduced/sponsored by Representative Running-Marquardt. HF 171, an act repealing relating to the aggregate ratio in the number of executive branch employees per supervisory employee in executive branch agencies and including effective date provisions, was introduced/sponsored by Horbach.

In the afternoon of the Iowa Senate, the Senate approved on a 40-9 vote, SF 7, an act providing for a .08 blood alcohol limit for motorboat or sailboat operating while intoxicated offenses.

In the afternoon Session of the house, HF 181, An Act establishing the categorical state percent of growth 1 for purposes of the state school foundation program and 2 including effective date and applicability provisions, was introduced/sponsored by the committee on education. HF 188, An Act relating to requirements for foster care provided by an 1 individual in a single-family home facility, was introduced/sponsored by Representative Isenhart.

The House also passed on a 65-34 vote, HF 149,  An Act providing for the placement of a right-to-work notice on 1 department of economic development materials, as presented in its original form. The House also passed on a 59-39 vote, HF 111, an act establishing the right to choose whether to purchase health care, as presented in its original form.

The House will convene tomorrow at 8:30 am and the Senate will convene at 9:00 am.
