Oskaloosa girls track earns three top-three finishes at conference meet

INDIANOLA — The Oskaloosa girls track and field team competed Tuesday night at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet hosted by Indianola, facing what coaches called one of the toughest high school conferences in Iowa.

The Indians finished seventh in the team standings with 38 points and came away with three top-three finishes during the meet.

Delaney Harbour led Oskaloosa with a runner-up finish in the long jump, clearing 16 feet, 5.5 inches. Tierney Carter also earned silver in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.07.

The sprint medley relay team of Monica Hundley, Vivian Bolibaugh, Delaney Harbour, and Tierney Carter battled to a third-place finish with a season-best time of 1:51.21.

Carter also added fourth-place finishes in both the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.

The Indians continued to improve throughout the lineup, recording several personal records during the conference meet. Tierney Thomes set a new personal best in the discus, Alyssa Sheets recorded a PR in the shot put, and Kennedy Wright improved during her leg of the 4×800 relay.

The coaching staff said one of the team’s season goals has been to improve its point total at every meet, and the Indians were able to continue that trend again Tuesday night. Coaches noted the team has only missed that goal once all season.

Oskaloosa will return to action Monday at Pella as the team prepares for the state qualifying district meet, which will also be hosted by Pella later this month.
