Central falls short in game one of Cruzin Classic

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.-The Central College women’s basketball team is down in Miami Gardens, Florida for the Cruzin Classic and drew a game one matchup against the Emmanuel College Saints (Ma)., losing 53-45 Wednesday.

Central’s offense was clicking right out of the gate as they put up 15 points in the first quarter while holding Emmanuel to just eight. They were able to maintain the lead from their good start throughout the first half and went into halftime leading 23-17.

However, it was a tale of two halves, as the Saints came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, completely flipping this game on its head. The Saints put up 36 second-half points to the Dutch’s 22, ultimately catapulting them to a 53-45 win.

Abbey Bence (junior, Burlington, West Burlington HS) led the Dutch in both points (9) and rebounds (10) while Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Co., Arvada West HS) led the team in assists, with three.
It is a quick turnaround for the Dutch (6-4), who play again tomorrow at 6 p.m. (EST) against the Bates Bobcats out of Maine.
