Buena Vista knocks off Central men’s basketball team

LINCOLN, NEB.- A strong first half by the Buena Vista University men’s basketball team propelled them to an 88-71 win over Central College Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch (4-4, 0-2 American Rivers Conference were outscored 45-31 in the first half against the Beavers (5-2, 1-1 conference). Buena Vista did most of its scoring in the paint, outscoring Central 46-30 in that department. The Beavers also outrebounded the Dutch by a 39-27 margin. Central was without starting center Anthony Gott (sophomore, Davenport, North Scott HS).

Owen Schipper (sophomore, Waukee) led the Dutch with 24 points and nine rebounds while adding three assists. Braylon Thomsen (freshman, Carbon Cliff, Ill., Davenport Assumption HS) made five 3-pointers on his way to a 23-point outburst.

Central hosts the University of Dubuque next Saturday at 4 p.m. inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
