Naughton’s 21 points not enough in Dutch women’s basketball loss

PELLA- A 21-point outburst from junior Emily Naughton (Indianola) gave the Central College women’s basketball a chance in a 66-63 loss at St. Olaf College (Minn.) Saturday afternoon.

The Dutch (4-2) trailed 58-50 with 3 minutes and 56 seconds left before going on a 13-5 run to tie the game up. That run was bolstered by a pair of 3-pointers from McKenzie Snook (sophomore, Chariton).

Central tied the game at 63-63 with 16 seconds left on a CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) basket. The Oles (3-2) took the lead for good on a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. Naughton’s game-tying 3-pointer fell short.

Naughton had a team-high five assists to go with her 21 points. Moore had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Maddie Backer (freshman, New Ulm, Minn.) was also in double figures with 11 points. Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) had five steals.

Central travels to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday, December 3 for its next game at 5:30 p.m.ff
