Cold-shooting Central hangs on for women’s basketball win

PELLA- After racing out to a 22-8 lead against Grinnell College, the Central College women’s basketball team survived shooting woes for a 60-56 win Tuesday.

Central (3-0) made nine of its first seventeen shots in the first quarter for 22 points. In the final three quarters, the Dutch made just 11 of 38 shots. Making 14 of 20 from the free throw helped the Dutch preserve their lead.

McKenzie Snook (sophomore, Chariton) was the leading scorer for Central with 14 points off the bench. Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) had 12. Snook, CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) and Lainey Duggan (sophomore, Phoenix, Ariz., Bella Vista College Prep) all had seven rebounds as Central outrebounded Grinnell 47-34.Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS) had seven assists.

The Dutch make their home debut Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest against the University of Wisconsin – River Falls.
