NO. 7 WARRIORS SWEEP BEARS IN HOME OPENER

Ottumwa, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills opened up its home slate with a 3-0 victory over visiting Des Moines Area Community College at the Hellyer Center on Monday night. The Warriors move to 2-3 overall on the year.

Indian Hills cruised to a 25-12 victory in the opening set before fending off the Bears in set two, 25-23. The Warriors strung together an impressive rally to upend the Bears 25-23 in the final set to take home the sweep. Indian Hills has now won nine consecutive matches vs. the Bears.

Sophomore Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) led the offensive surge with a season-high 12 kills for the Warriors. Freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) tallied 11 kills with just one attack error in 21 attempts for a .476 hitting percentage for the Warriors.

Sophomore Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima) tallied a career-high 39 assists to pace the offense for the Warriors. The sophomore added a personal-best 13 digs for her first-career double-double.

Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) recorded a team-high 17 digs on the defensive front for the Warriors while Sherif added 11 digs for her second double-double of the year. Sophomore Luana Silva Ferreira (Guimaraes, Portgual/Martins Sarmento) tallied five total blocks in the sweep.

After a convincing victory in the opening set, the Warriors held off a late surge from the Bears in set two to set the stage for a potential sweep. DMACC jumped out to a marginal lead in the final frame, but the Warriors strung together 12 of the final 15 points to come from behind and earn the first win on their home court this season.

Indian Hills has now won 37 of its last 39 matches on its home court.

The Warriors hit the road to McCook, NE for the McCook Invitational, hosted by McCook Community College. Indian Hills opens up play against host McCook Thursday night at 6:00 PM before taking on the likes of North Central Texas College, Butler Community College (KS), and Seward County Community College (KS).
