WARRIORS EARN THREE NATIONAL TITLES

Hutchinson, KS – The Indian Hills Men’s Track & Field squad took home a fourth-place finish at the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Highlighted by two individual national champions and a relay team championship, the Warriors cracked the top-five for the second consecutive year.
Competing at Gowans Stadium on the Hutchinson Community College (KS) campus, the Warriors totaled 70.0 team points to place behind national champion South Plains College (TX), national runner-up New Mexico Junior College, and third-place finisher Iowa Western Community College.
The Warriors brought home two individual national champions as sophomore Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) captured the hammer throw title while freshman Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) ran to the 800-meter national championship. Galvez added a second national title as the standout teamed up with Jaquan Coke (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College), Nichalas Power (Riverton City, Jamaica), and Cayde de Waal (Brakpan, South Africa/Hoërskool Oosterlig) to capture the 4x800m national championship.
In total, the Warriors brought home 13 All-American honors, including a national runner-up performance and three third-place finishes. The 13 All-American honors set a new outdoor program record for the Warriors.
Galvez capped a breakout freshman season with a dominant performance for the Warriors. Galvez opened the national championships by anchoring the 4x800m relay squad for the program’s first outdoor national title in the event. The Warriors previously brought home the 2024 indoor national title in the event. The quartet of Coke, Power, de Waal, and Galvez produced a time of 7:25.59 to finish more than a full second ahead of Iowa Central Community College.
Galvez followed up with the 800m national championship on the final day of competition as the freshman produced the fourth consecutive outdoor 800m national championship for the Warriors, joining former standouts Tyrice Taylor (2024, 2023) and Rivaldo Marshall (2022). Galvez ran to a time of 1:50.66 to outlast the field.
Galvez was joined by Power who placed third overall in the 800m with a time of 1:51.13 while Kemarrio Bygrave (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) placed sixth overall with a time of 1:51.65. The Warriors have now collected 12 All-American honors in the 800m event in the last five seasons.
Joens, the 2025 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Male Field Athlete of the Year, cemented his legacy at Indian Hills with his first-career national championship. Joens produced a distance of 59.99 meters to outlast the field by more than four meters and earn a spot atop the podium. Joens, who was the national runner-up in the 2024 hammer throw, added two additional All-American honors with a seventh-place showing in both the shot put and discus events. Joens caps his Indian Hills career as an eight-time All-American.
Fellow thrower Michael Etuma (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City) finished off his Indian Hills career with a silver medal in the discus, placing second overall with a mark of 57.44m. Etuma added All-American honors in the hammer throw with a seventh-place finish to become a four-time All-American while at Indian Hills.
Kaden Banks (Onalaska, WI/Holmen) captured a bronze medal in the shot put to aid in an dominant performance from the men’s throws program. Banks tossed a mark of 16.92m to land a spot on the podium. Banks also added All-American honors with a fifth-place finish in the discus while teammate Haydn Stockdale (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) placed fourth overall in the hammer to give the Warriors eight All-Americans in the throws events.
The men’s 4x100m relay squad of Joseph Cannon (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King), Damor Miller (Kingston, Jamaica), Izaiah Loveless (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City West), and Justin Gray (Memphis, TN/Southwind) earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish, clocking in with a time of 39.98, just 0.37 seconds off of the Indian Hills school record.
Sophomore Anthony Duncan (Keosauqua, IA/Van Buren) finished his Indian Hills career with a strong showing in the 400m hurdles, posting a personal-best mark 53.02 in the prelims, good enough for third-best in school history.
The Warriors have now produced 11 individual national championships, including nine at the outdoor national championships, all since 2019.
