Oskaloosa Boys Tennis Wraps Up Season in Substate Battle Against Davenport Assumption
The Oskaloosa High School boys tennis team made the long trip to Camanche on Saturday to compete in their Class 1A Substate team match against the #3 seeded Davenport Assumption. Facing off in cold and gusty conditions, the Indians played hard but ultimately fell 5-0 to the powerful Assumption squad, bringing their 2025 season to a close.
In a format where a team must win five matches to advance, the meet concluded before all play was completed. Several of Oskaloosa’s singles competitors fought through tight sets and extended rallies, but the conditions and Assumption’s consistency proved too much to overcome.
Ethan Stek, playing at #1 singles, dropped a competitive match 6-3, 6-4. Cooper Rupprecht fell 6-2, 6-1 at the #2 position. Mason Muir kept things close throughout his match at #3, but ultimately came up short, 6-4, 6-4. At #4, Holden Braundmeier pushed his opponent into a first-set tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Ivan Montgomery dropped his match 6-2, 6-2 at #5. Reuben Chilcote began play at #6 but was unable to finish once the team result was determined.
Despite the loss, Oskaloosa’s athletes continued to demonstrate progress in a season that included competitive conference play and multiple individual highlights. The team showed growth throughout the year, with players stepping into leadership roles and challenging higher-seeded opponents across several meets.
