May 13, 2025

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) has been named the 2025 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Joens lands an unprecedented fourth consecutive conference Athlete of the Year honor for the Indian Hills Men’s Track & Field squad. After leading the Warriors at the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Joens has now collected both indoor and outdoor ICCAC Field Athlete of the Year honors in each of the last two seasons.

Joens, who was also recently named the Indian Hills Community College Student-Athlete of the Year, adds to a lengthy list of accolades after a dominant showing at the NJCAA Region 11 Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Council Bluffs, IA, earning All-Region honors in the men’s shot put with a third-place finish.

During the outdoor campaign, Joens ranked in the top-10 in the nation in three separate events – the shot put, hammer throw, and discus throw. Heading into the national championships, Joens ranks second in the nation in the hammer (59.13 meters), third in the shot put (17.48 meters), and ninth in the discus (52.24 meters).

Joens and the Warriors will head to Hutchinson Community College May 15 for the 2025 NJCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
