Oskaloosa Boys Track Opens Season with Strong Performances, 4×800 Team Claims 7th at Central Indoor

The Oskaloosa boys track and field team opened their season Thursday night at the Central College Indoor meet with a strong showing, highlighted by several personal records and standout performances.

The Indians’ 4×800 relay team of Reid Luck, Blake Herny, Silas Johnston, and Sam Nelson led the way with a 7th place finish, clocking a time of 9:20.51. Herny also excelled individually, earning 19th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.75.

Overall, Oskaloosa athletes set 19 new marks, including three personal records, as many of the team’s younger members competed in their first varsity meet. The Indians were well-represented across a range of events, including the long jump, high jump, sprints, and distance races.

In field events, Carter Jordan (16’ 01”) and Parker Jordan (15’ 09”) both placed in the top half of the long jump field, while Kien Bryan cleared 5’ 02” to finish 16th in the high jump.

The sprint events saw multiple athletes competing in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, with Parker Jordan and Dre Bullock leading the way in each event, respectively. In the distance events, Micah VanEe turned in a solid 5:31.31 in the 1600 meters, placing 27th.

Relay teams also performed well, with the 4×200 team finishing 20th and the 4×400 team earning 15th.

Coach Mike Sterner was encouraged by the way the team supported each other, noting the energy and encouragement evident throughout the evening as the Indians competed in each heat. Half of the roster experienced their first varsity action, setting a strong foundation for the outdoor season ahead.
