Oskaloosa Girls Wrestling Team Earns Strong Results at Knoxville Tournament

The Oskaloosa Girls Wrestling Team traveled to Knoxville Monday night to compete in a highly competitive tournament, and the Indians returned home with impressive results, including one first-place finish and three second-place finishes.

Mia Luck Dominates to Win First Place

Mia Luck had an outstanding performance, finishing the night with a perfect 2-0 record in her bracket to claim first place. In her opening match at 130 pounds, Luck defeated Autumn Sertterh from Cardinal by technical fall (16-1) in just 2 minutes. She followed up with a strong performance in the finals, pinning Laila Pedicini from Knoxville in 1:15 to seal her victory.

Alyssa Sheets, Aleigha Sheets, and McKayla Hansen Secure Second-Place Finishes

Three other Oskaloosa wrestlers fought hard to earn second place in their respective weight classes.

At 105 pounds, Alyssa Sheets went 2-1 on the night. She started strong with a win by fall over Khloe Parker from East Union in 3:07. She followed up with another pin, this time against Madison Davis of North Mahaska in just 48 seconds. Unfortunately, Sheets suffered a loss in the finals to Serenity Turner from Knoxville, who won by fall in 2:00.

Aleigha Sheets, competing at 145 pounds, also posted a 2-1 record to finish in second place. After a tough loss in the opening round to Cheyenne Dike of East Union (fall in 1:44), Aleigha bounced back with a series of dominant performances. She won her second match with a fall over Layla Shilling from Tri-County in 1:53, then pinned Avery Countryman of Cardinal in 5:20. In her final match, Sheets defeated Isabelle Sinnard from Knoxville by fall in 1:18, securing her spot in second place.

At 120 pounds, McKayla Hansen faced a challenging night but wrestled well in a tough bracket. She lost both of her matches to Paislee Kern from Cardinal, with falls in 1:11 and 1:48, but gained valuable experience competing at a high level.

Strong Showings Across the Board

Despite some setbacks, the Oskaloosa girls showed resilience and determination. Coach Miller was proud of the team’s effort and the impressive results. The success of Mia Luck’s first-place finish and the second-place efforts of Alyssa Sheets, Aleigha Sheets, and McKayla Hansen reflect the team’s commitment to improvement and their readiness for future challenges.
