Grinnell Men’s Basketball Dominates Principia in High-Scoring Affair
Grinnell, IA — The Grinnell College Pioneers showcased their offensive firepower in a commanding 126-89 victory over Principia College on Saturday afternoon at Darby Gymnasium. The win moves Grinnell to 2-1 on the season, while Principia falls to 1-2.
Grinnell’s fast-paced offense overwhelmed Principia from the start, as the Pioneers shot an impressive 47.9% from the field in the first half, including 11 three-pointers. Leading the charge was Kai Te Huki, who scored 22 points, including four three-pointers. Gabe Garcia chipped in 16 points, and Nick Lundy added 16 points and three rebounds off the bench.
The Pioneers took control early, jumping out to a 62-43 lead by halftime, and never looked back. Their relentless press defense forced 28 turnovers, converting many into fast-break points.
“Our game plan is always to push the pace and create opportunities off turnovers,” said head coach David Arseneault Jr. “The team executed well on both ends of the court.”
Principia’s offense struggled to keep up despite a valiant effort by Nolan Simon, who led all scorers with 20 points. Bobby Alford contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, but the Panthers were unable to match Grinnell’s depth and three-point shooting.
Grinnell’s bench was instrumental in the win, contributing 78 points. Harris Dar and David Bluder each added critical contributions, while the team finished with a total of 19 made three-pointers.
