Grinnell Volleyball Edges Out Monmouth in Thrilling Five-Set Battle

On November 9, the Grinnell Pioneers women’s volleyball team showcased grit and determination at Darby Gym, taking down the Monmouth Fighting Scots in a nail-biting five-set showdown. The match, attended by 62 enthusiastic fans, saw Grinnell outlast Monmouth in a 3-2 victory, with set scores of 26-24, 25-26, 24-12, 26-24, and 15-12.

Grinnell’s Jenna Keller led the way offensively, delivering key kills that kept the team in the game during tight moments. With the Pioneers and Scots exchanging the lead multiple times throughout each set, Grinnell’s composure proved essential. Millie Leonard and Keira Sullivan also contributed crucial points, often turning the tide just as Monmouth seemed ready to pull ahead.

Defensively, Grinnell’s Sophie Weber and Gabby Choy were instrumental, helping the team rack up a total of eight blocks. The final set was an all-out effort as the Pioneers surged ahead to secure the match, ending in a climactic 15-12 finish to notch their 20th win of the season.

This victory improves Grinnell’s record to 20-9.
