Nine Rated in NAIA, 12 in Heart as First Polls Released

Oskaloosa–A plethora of Statesmen women’s wrestlers continue to be ranked in both the league and nation as the NAIA released its first set of polls this week.

As a team, WPU remains fifth in the country with 131 points. Grand View is the new #1 with 213 points, while Life (Ga.) (193), Cumberlands (Ky.) (177), and Providence (Mont.) (156) finish the top five.

110-pounder Mia Palumbo (Sr., Oak Lawn, Ill., Exercise Science) is still first in the NAIA, while 124-pounder Joanna Vanderwood (Sr., Graham, Wash., Nursing) and 131-pounder Devin Patton (Jr., Plano, Texas, Business Management) are both third at their respective weights.

Kendall Bostelman (Jr., Napoleon, Ohio, Exercise Science) is next in fourth at 138, while Isabelle Hawley (Jr., Winchester, Calif., Sociology) is sixth at 145.

Teya Garner (So., San Antonio, Texas, Biology) and Zao Estrada (Fr., Bluffton, S.C., Sociology) pace the remaining Statesmen as they are both 11th at 103 and 117 pounds, respectively.

Naida Abdijanovic (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Biology) follows Hawley in 13th at 145 pounds, and Catherine Steinkamp (Sr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science) also gives William Penn a second ranked wrestler at 117 as she is 15th.

The Heart of America Athletic Conference standings have WPU in third with 174.5 points, while Grand View is first with 220 and Missouri Valley is second with 179.

The trio of Palumbo, Patton, and Bostelman all top their weight classes, while Vanderwood and Hawley are second.

Abdijanovic is third, while Garner and Estrada are both sitting in fourth. Steinkamp is in fifth, while Olivia Atkins (So., St. Peters, Mo., Nursing) takes the #6 spot at 103 pounds. Grace Gray (Jr., Ankeny, Iowa, New Media) is sixth as well at 180 pounds.

Alexis Montes (So., El Paso, Texas, Exercise Science) is also rated ninth at 124 pounds.

WPU travels to Forest City Saturday to compete in the Waldorf Open at 9 a.m.
