Osky Middle School Volleyball Teams Show Grit in Ottumwa Matches
The Oskaloosa Indians volleyball teams traveled to Ottumwa on September 26, where they faced tough competition across four matches.
The A1 team fought hard but fell short, losing 0-2 by scores of 12-21 and 19-21. Ally Goodman contributed with an ace and two kills, Aleigha Burton added three aces and a dig, while Blair Rossi chipped in with an ace, two kills, and two digs. Taylen Parker had a strong showing with seven assists, Sienna Stout posted an ace, three kills, and two digs, and Isis Edwards contributed a kill, a dig, and a block. Despite the loss, Coach Anna Gist noted the team showed significant improvement with solid volleys compared to their last match.
The A2 team also lost in two sets, 5-21 and 25-27, narrowly missing a win in the second set. Kayla Carey led the team with an impressive seven aces. Chloe Landgrebe added an ace and two kills, Macy Siroky contributed two kills, while Kailynn Playle and Emma Ross each tallied a kill.
The B1 team put up a good fight but lost 1-3, with set scores of 14-21, 21-16, and 10-15. Brooke Boertje led the team with five aces, followed by Zoila Keller with three aces and Lucy Gudith with two aces. The team struggled on offense but relied on strong serving to stay in the match.
The B2 team came close in their first set but ultimately fell 0-2 with scores of 23-25 and 14-21. Phylicia Brooks led with three aces, while April Potter added three aces and three kills. Taylor Wissler contributed two aces and two kills, and Alexis Anderson chipped in with two kills.
The B1 and B2 teams will face Osky Christian at home on Monday, September 30, with all teams returning to action at Norwalk on Tuesday, October 1.
