Lange’s Title Guides William Penn to Central Kansas Classic Title
McPherson, Kan.–Olivia Lange (Sr., Buckeburg, Germany, Business Management) blitzed the field for her first tournament title of the season as the Statesmen women’s golf team won the Central Kansas Classic Monday and Tuesday.
WPU was first out of seven teams with a two-round score of 628 (303-325) at the par-72 Turkey Creek Golf Course. Barton CC was a distant runner-up with a tally of 679 (337-342).
Lange, who won the crown by four strokes, opened with a career-low three-under 69, which is the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history. Her round was highlighted by five birdies and 11 pars.
The senior then added a 78 for a final score of 147. It is her fifth career medalist honor.
Emma Lawson (Sr., Rossville, Ind., Exercise Science) also started the tourney with a career low as she carded an even-par 72. The senior finished with an 80 for a final score of 152 to place third.
Riley Burns (Sr., Edwardsville, Ill., Elementary Education) was next in fourth place at 162 (79-83), while Gabriana Franco (Jr., Tracy, Calif., Exercise Science) was in the top 10 as well in sixth at 167 (83-84).
Grace Butler (Sr., Arnolds Park, Iowa, Biology) rounded out the lineup in 14th at 173 (84-89).
“We had an excellent first round with a ton of birdies; we had some really good flow going,” Head Coach Elise Ibrahim said. “Olivia Lange was obviously outstanding with one of the best rounds in school history. We now look to keep this momentum going each week. We have not gone that low as a team for quite a while, so it was a good reminder of what we are capable of when we put it all together.”
Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Wilmington, Ill., to compete in the Bill Johnson Memorial Tournament on September 30-October 1. Play will be contested at Cinder Ridge Golf Course.
