Simpson Shuts Out Grinnell 4-0 in Dominant Display
Simpson College continued its unbeaten start to the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Grinnell on September 12, 2024, at Springer Field. The Storm, now 4-0-1 on the season, overwhelmed Grinnell, controlling possession and outshooting their opponents 16-0.
After a series of near misses in the first half, Simpson broke through in the 42nd minute when Macy Kuhns scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Savannah Schneider. The goal gave Simpson a 1-0 lead heading into halftime and set the tone for the second half.
Simpson’s attack continued to apply pressure, with Jordyn Foelske doubling the lead in the 51st minute, thanks to an assist from Anna Eide. The Storm showed no signs of slowing down, as Cassie Nash netted her fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute off a setup from Kasey Shanahan. Hailey Kowzan sealed the result with an unassisted strike in the 84th minute.
Grinnell’s defense struggled to contain Simpson’s relentless attack, and their offense was unable to muster a shot throughout the match. Simpson’s goalkeeper, Meredith Downs, had a quiet night in goal, recording no saves, while Grinnell’s Peyton Dixon was busy, making four saves despite conceding four goals.
Simpson also dominated set pieces, earning six corner kicks to Grinnell’s none and committing fewer fouls. The win extends Simpson’s strong start, keeping them undefeated through five matches, while Grinnell falls to 2-2-1 on the season.
