Oskaloosa, IA – The Mahaska Serenity Hospice is gearing up for its highly anticipated 13th Annual Run in the Sun event, scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd. This event, a staple in the community, aims to bring together families and individuals to support a vital cause while enjoying a day of fun and fitness.

Amanda Doud, Foundation Director at Mahaska Health, is at the helm of this year’s event. “We are excited to host the Run in the Sun once again. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy some outdoor activities, and support the Serenity House,” she said.

Participants can choose between a 5K run and a 2K walk, with registration available online through the Mahaska Health website. Upon registration, participants will receive a free T-shirt and can select their preferred event. The registration process is straightforward, with links provided on Mahaska Health’s Facebook page and website.

“This event is very family-friendly,” Doud emphasized. “We have activities lined up for kids, including inflatables, face painting, and a snow cone stand. We’ve also added a kid’s race where they can run 50 and 100 meters. It’s a fun way to get everyone involved, regardless of age.”

The event not only promises fun but also serves a significant cause. All proceeds from Run in the Sun benefit the Serenity House, Mahaska’s hospice facility. “The funds raised go directly to supporting the Serenity House, which provides essential care for patients in their final stages of life,” Doud explained. “Participants can also honor loved ones by purchasing tribute signs, which will be displayed along the race route and can be taken home afterward.”

The Run in the Sun will kick off at 8:00 AM with a ceremony, followed by the race start at 8:30 AM. The kid’s races will take place shortly after the main events conclude.

“We’ve seen great participation from local high schools and colleges in the past, and we’re encouraging teams to sign up again this year,” Doud said. Teams receive a 10% discount on registration fees using the code TEAM10. High school and college athletes from Oskaloosa, Eddyville-Blakesburg, North Mahaska, and William Penn University can also benefit from a 50% discount using the code ATHLETE.

For more information or to register for the event, visit the Mahaska Health website or their Facebook page.
