Oskaloosa Girls Golf Team Shines at Regional Tournament

The Oskaloosa High School girls golf team delivered a stellar performance at their recent Regional tournament, showcasing their hard work and determination throughout the season. Competing for a chance to advance to the state level, the team finished impressively in 6th place out of 12 teams, achieving their best score of the season with a total of 402. This remarkable score was 29 strokes lower than their previous best of 431, highlighting the significant progress the team has made.

Leading the team were Lydia VanVeldhuizen and Leah Cohrt, both of whom achieved personal records (PR) with scores of 98. Their exceptional performances set a positive tone for the rest of the team. Gwyneth Utterback and Gracie DeRonde also set personal records, scoring 102 and 104 respectively, further contributing to the team’s overall success.

Coach Cory Sheesley expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements and optimism for the future. “I am proud of the progress we made this season and the future looks bright!” Sheesley said. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the graduating seniors, whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in the team’s growth. “We are losing some senior leadership this year which will need to be replaced. I’ll definitely miss Reese Milburn, Lydia VanVeldhuizen, Chloe Snell, Gwyneth Utterback, and Amelia Bowen. They are such great people and I can’t wait to see what they do in the future!”

As the season comes to a close, the Oskaloosa girls golf team can reflect on their significant achievements and look forward to building on this year’s success. With a solid foundation and promising new talent, the team is poised for an even more exciting season ahead.
